GREEN BAY, Wis. ( - The Green Bay women's volleyball team hits the road for the last time in regular season play this weekend, taking on Butler and Wright State in Horizon League action. The Phoenix will play at Butler (17-7, 11-1 HL) Friday at 7 p.m. before facing Wright State (8-17, 3-9 HL) Saturday.

In its first meeting against Butler, the Phoenix took the opening two sets at the Kress Center on Oct. 10 before the Bulldogs rallied for the 3-2 victory. Despite the loss, numerous Phoenix players notched career highs. Junior Abbey Gitter (Hortonville, Wis.) totaled a career-high 22 kills in the match while senior Whitney Schott (Roscoe, Ill.) had 66 assists and sophomore Brittany Groth (Oak Creek, Wis.) tallied 36 digs.

Groth's performance in that match helped her earn Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week honors, and fellow sophomore Carmen Leitermann (Schofield, Wis.) earned the same award this past Monday after two solid outings last week. The middle hitter had 13 blocks as Green Bay split matches against Valparaiso and Loyola.

Green Bay swept Wright State in the first meeting on Oct. 9, but the match was closer than the 3-0 sweep indicates. The Phoenix pulled away late in each set, winning them all by an identical 25-23 score. Gitter again led the team in that match with 14 kills.

A victory over Wright State on Saturday would secure a spot in the conference tournament for the Green Bay, who enters the weekend in sixth place in the league standings at 5-8.
