Michaela Franklin Accepts Associate Head Coach Position at Iowa
GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Green Bay Director of Athletics Mary Ellen Gillespie has announced that Michaela Franklin has stepped down from her position as Phoenix volleyball head coach to accept the associate head coach job at the University of Iowa.
“I want to thank Michaela for her contributions to our volleyball program and our department,” Gillespie said. “In a short time, she helped our team improve and has positioned us to compete for a Horizon League championship. She has all our very best wishes for success as she joins the Hawkeye family.”
Franklin joins the staff of recently-hired Hawkeyes head coach Bond Shymansky after spending one season at Green Bay. Franklin was previously an assistant coach for Shymansky at Marquette from 2009-12.
The Phoenix posted a 14-14 overall record in 2013 and a 9-5 mark in Horizon League play. Three postseason award-winners are expected to be back in 2014, as All-Horizon League honorees Emily Riese (Fond du Lac, Wis.) and Jillian Bauer (Verona, Wis.) and Newcomer of the Year Shannon Hurley (Connellsville, Pa.) highlight a list of eight total returners.
Green Bay will begin an immediate national search for the next head coach of its volleyball program.
