Senior Jennifer Bradfield and the Phoenix wrapped up the2011-12 season on Friday.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Detroit Friday night in its season finale at Western Racquet and Fitness Club. The Phoenix ends the year with a 3-13 overall record and a 2-6 mark in Horizon League play.

The Titans were able to overcome a strong effort by the Phoenix, taking the doubles point before winning four of the six singles matches.

Green Bay won a pair of singles contests in the defeat, as junior Rebecca Nelson (Brookfield, Wis.) and freshman Samantha Iwen (De Pere, Wis.) picked up wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively. Nelson earned a three-set victory (4-6, 6-3, 11-9) over Detroit's Julia Fernandes in the fifth spot, while Iwen rolled past Alyssa Korson 6-0, 6-4 at No. 6.

Friday marked the end of a pair of Phoenix careers, as seniors Jennifer Bradfield (Fairfield, Iowa) and Morgan Weuve (Green Bay, Wis.) played their final matches in a Green Bay uniform. Bradfield played every match at No. 1 singles for the Phoenix this season, while Weuve posted four wins in the No. 2 slot.

Despite the numbers in the wins and loss columns, first-year Green Bay head coach Sara Schubring is confident the program is headed in the right direction.

"The returners are motivated to continue to improve throughout the offseason," Schubring said. "They recognize the importance of executing the fundamentals on a consistent basis in matches and continuing to build their strength and conditioning base. We're certainly looking forward to 2012-13."
