GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Freshman Marissa Michalkiewicz (Appleton, Wis.) has been named the Horizon League Softball Player of Week, the league office announced on Monday. Michalkiewicz helped lead the Phoenix to a 3-0 sweep of Detroit while batting an impressive .556 in the weekend series.
The honor is the first of Michalkiewicz’s career and the first time a Green Bay player has received the award this season. In three games against the Titans she went 5-for-9 with a home run, two RBI, two runs scored and four walks. Her solo shot in the second game of the series was her sixth longball of the year, tying the program’s third-best mark for home runs in a single season.
The slugger finished the 2013 campaign tied for the program’s best single-season batting average at .398, and set the program on-base percentage record with an incredible .458. She also slugged an impressive .664 and led the Horizon League with 14 doubles, both good for the program’s second-best marks. After just one season with the program, she ranks in the top 10 of multiple program season records and her six homers put her in a tie for the eighth-most career home runs in team history.
Michalkiewicz 2013 Season Records:
Runs (T-9th): 25
Hits (5th): 51

Home Runs (3rd): 6
RBI (T-9th): 26
