Two Phoenix Tabbed to CoSIDA Academic All-District Softball Team
GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Green Bay senior Stacey Butts (Greenfield, Wis.) and junior Hailey Mohrfeld (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
Butts and Mohrfeld become the ninth and tenth Phoenix softball players to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District accolades. Both will now move onto the national ballot where they have a chance at earning Academic All-America honors.
Butts has been named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll each year of eligibility and is also a member of the Dean’s List at the University. She is currently pursuing a degree in education with minors in human development and mathematics. On the field, Butts is hitting .303 this season with 23 hits, two doubles, one triple and two home runs. She has also driven in 19 runs and scored 10 while going 1-for-1 on stolen base attempts.
A human biology major, Mohrfeld is a member of both the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll and University Dean’s List. Serving as the primary shortstop for the Phoenix this season, Mohrfeld is hitting .317 on 32 hits with five doubles, a triple and team-leading five home runs. She leads the team with 30 runs scored and has also driven in 16 runs while going 3-for-4 on the basepath.
To qualify, nominees must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average. They must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing, completed at least one full calendar year at the institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games. District 6 includes the states of Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Green Bay will look to remain atop the Horizon League standings this weekend as it welcomes Valparaiso for the regular-season finale for both teams. With a series win, the Phoenix could capture the No. 1 seed and hosting privileges for the upcoming Horizon League Tournament beginning on May 7.
