Michalkiewicz Named Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Month

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Green Bay sophomore Marissa Michalkiewicz (Appleton, Wis.) was named the Horizon League Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month for March, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
She was joined by Youngstown State senior Phil Lipari on the men’s side.
As a sophomore, Michalkiewicz holds a 3.94 grade point average while majoring in Environmental Science and Environmental Policy and Planning. In the fall of 2013, she was named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll.
While starting all 16 games in the month of March, Michalkiewicz led the Phoenix at the plate with a batting average of .396. She tallied 21 hits, including three doubles, two triples and three home runs. She also drove in 16 runs and crossed the plate 10 times. Michalkiewicz was named the Horizon League Player of the Week on March 3 after leading Green Bay to a 3-1 finish at the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Classic.
The Green Bay softball team concludes conference play on Saturday and Sunday as the Phoenix host Valparaiso for a three-game series. The Phoenix currently lead the League standings and are in contention for a regular season title and No. 1 seed at the Horizon League Championship beginning May 7.
