Softball To Take Part in USF Spring Break Tournament

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay softball team heads to sunny Florida this weekend as it takes part in the USF Michele Smith Spring Break Tournament in Clearwater.
Green Bay will face Yale (8:30 a.m.) and Long Island University (10:45 a.m.) on Friday, Bryant (3:30 p.m.) and Quinnipiac (5:45 p.m.) on Saturday and Connecticut (10:15 a.m.) and Purdue (12:30 p.m.) on Sunday.
All games except Purdue will be streamed live.
Green Bay is 3-1 in the early going of its season. Sophomore Marissa Michalkiewicz (Appleton, Wis.) was named the Horizon League Player of the Week after the first weekend of competition when she hit .429 (6-14) with a double, two triples and a home run while driving in seven runs over four games.
Junior Hailey Mohrfeld (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) currently leads the team hitting .583 (7-12) with a double, triple and an RBI. In the circle, senior Ashley Nannemann (Burlington, Wis.) leads the way. Over the opening weekend she made two appearances with one start, throwing a complete game against Northern Iowa, scatting three hits and allowing one earned run.
Scouting Yale: Roster Schedule Stats
The Yale Bulldogs enter the weekend with an overall record of 1-6. The Bulldogs are on a four-game losing streak after last weeks loses to Central Michigan, South Florida, Florida Atlantic, and Central Florida. Bulldog senior Tori Balta leads the offense with 8 hits and a .320 batting average and is one of four players to bat .300 or above. Freshman Lindsey Efflandt paces the Yale pitching staff with a 1.31 ERA over 10.2 innings pitched with a 1-1 record and 8 strikeouts.
Scouting Long Island: Roster Schedule Stats
The Long Island Blackbirds hold a record of 8-16 early in the season, most recently dropping three of five games at the USF Under Armour Showcase last weekend. Blackbird freshman Kayla Gloady, unaided, leads the team batting over .300 at just .308 with 20 hits and nine RBI’s. Freshman Shelley Proctor leads the pitching staff with a 3.25 ERA with 60 strikeouts in 92.2 innings pitched.
Scouting Bryant: Roster Schedule Stats
Only winning two of their last seven games, the Bryant Bulldogs own a 3-9 record early in the season with wins over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Appalachian State, and the College of Charleston. Senior Aubrey Mable owns a team high 8 runs, and batting .345 with a .459 on-base percentage. Sophomore pitcher Elle Madsen pitching the Bulldogs to their only three wins of the season with an ERA of 3.11 and 29 strikeouts in 47.1 innings pitched.
Scouting Quinnipiac: Roster Schedule Stats
The Bobcats are 1-11 this season, with their only win coming this last weekend at the USF Under Armour Showcase over St. Johns. Sophomore Sydney Robey leads the team hitting .345 with 10 hits and seven runs, while junior Hannah Lindsley pitched the team’s only win and holds a season average 6.36 ERA in 25.1 innings pitched.
Scouting Connecticut: Roster Schedule Stats
Connecticut holds onto a 4-10 record in the early going, winning three of its four games last weekend topping Youngstown State, Eastern Kentucky, and Wright State before falling to Norfolk State at the Winthrop Adidas Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C. The Huskies are led offensively by sophomore Valerie Sadowl, who is one of two Husky players hitting over .300, at .471. In the circle for the Huskies, junior Lauren Duggan leads the pitching staff with a 3.61 ERA over 52.1 innings pitched with 27 strikeouts.
Scouting Purdue: Roster Schedule Stats
Purdue is 8-14-1 this season, most recently competing at the Georgia Softball Classic last weekend where it went 2-3. The Boilermakers have two players hitting over .300, with Andie Varsho leading the team hitting .394, while Ashley Burkhardt follows at .351. Lilly Fecho has appeared in 14 games with 13 starts in the circle, posting a 6-7 record with a 2.95 ERA over 83.0 innings over work.
