VALPARAISO, Ind. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – A goal by senior Ahna Logan (Roseville, Minn.) in her final collegiate match gave the Phoenix an early lead, but it wasn’t enough as Valparaiso scored an equalizer and both teams missed on several scoring opportunities before the match ended in a 1-1 draw on Friday evening at Brown Field.

The draw brought Green Bay’s overall record to 4-8-5 this season while it finished with a 1-5-1 mark in the Horizon League. Valpo moved to 8-6-3 overall and 2-3-2 in the conference.

A goal in the 12th minute by Logan gave the Phoenix an early 1-0 advantage. Jenna Harrington (Madison, Wis.) set up the play with a pass to Logan on the right side, and she hit a shot from the top of the box to the lower left corner for her first goal of the season.

However, Valparaiso responded 10 minutes later, as April Cronin collected a through ball from Rita Craven and sent it home to knot the score at 1-1.

Renee Therrien (Winnipeg, Manitoba) put a shot on goal late in the opening stanza, but Valpo’s Kristen Manski made the save and the score remained even going into the break. Neither team had a corner kick opportunity in the first 45 minutes of action, while Valpo led shots, 6-5.

Green Bay put six shots on the board in the second half, including two on goal, but Manski came up with a save each time. A series of quick shots in the 73rd minute looked like a prime opportunity for the Phoenix to put a tally on the board, but it was unable to capitalize. Logan started the threat with a shot that went wide and was followed by another wide attempt by Katie Schulz (Plymouth, Minn.). A minute later Emily Friedl (Kenosha, Wis.) had an attempt on goal, but Manski made the save to keep the score even.

The Crusaders nearly put the match away in the first overtime session, but a shot by Katriona Anesini hit the post in the 98th minute. Transitioning to the other end of the field, Hekla Palmadottir (Akranes, Iceland) served up a nice corner kick but Schulz’s shot in the final seconds was blocked.

A header by Hannah Kernen (Belleville, Wis.) was the only shot for the Green Bay offense in the second overtime, as the Phoenix recorded its fifth draw of the season.

For the match, Valpo owned a slim 16-15 shots advantage despite Green Bay leading attempts on goal, 9-4. The Crusaders also led corner kicks, 4-2. Logan finished with a match-high five shots and Kernen added four attempts including three on goal.

Katy Pilarzyk (Madison, Wis.) played the entire match, making three saves while her counterpart Manski was forced to make eight saves.
