Phoenix Welcomes UIC for Horizon League Weekend Series

GREEN BAY, Wis. ( – The Green Bay softball team starts a six-game homestand to close the regular season this weekend, welcoming UIC for a three-game series.

The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. and a single game at noon on Sunday. For Saturday’s twinbill the Phoenix will have two special events: Softball Strike Out Cancer and a student tailgate.

Lavender is the all-encompassing support color for cancers and the Phoenix will be wear special strike out cancer t-shirts prior to Saturday’s game. Fans attending the doubleheader can help support the St. Vincent Regional Cancer Center’s Compassionate Care Fund, by purchasing a strikeout cancer t-shirt for $10.

Student Tailgate with Free Pizza!
Students are encouraged to arrive early as the Kappa Sigma fraternity is hosting a student tailgate, starting at noon. Free Pizza Hut pizza (while supplies last), drinks, yard games, and more!

The Phoenix is 19-11 overall and 6-4 in the Horizon League. The squad is coming off of a doubleheader sweep of Detroit on Thursday playing two close one-run games with a 3-2 extra-inning win in game one before taking game two, 7-6. UIC stands at 12-21 overall and 6-6 in the conference, most recently falling to IUPUI, 3-1, on Tuesday.

At the plate the Phoenix is led by senior Miranda Reinke (Milwaukee, Wis.) who is hitting .376 with a team-leading 10 doubles. She currently has a 12-game hitting streak and 15-game reached base streak. In the circle the staff has a combined 2.56 ERA, led by a 1.29 ERA effort by junior Lauren Danner (Kaukauna, Wis.).

The Flames have a quartet of players hitting over .300 this season, including three over .400. Paige Peterson leads the way hitting .435, while Natalie Hernandez is averaging .423 with a team-best 47 hits, 31 runs scored, 32 RBI, 10 doubles and eight home runs. The pitching staff has a combined 4.84 ERA while allowing the opposition to hit .277 this season.
