Green Bay Moves to 2-0 in League Play with 62-41 Win Over WSU
GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women’s basketball team ended 2016 with a victory over Wright State (9-5, 1-1) Saturday afternoon at the Kress Center, downing the Raiders 62-41.
The opening quarter of play saw the Phoenix (11-2, 2-0) get off to one of its hottest starts this season, with Mehryn Kraker pouring in 17 points on a 6-of-6 mark from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 performance from beyond the arc. The Phoenix led 25-12 after the opening period, despite the game once being tied at 12-12.
Both Green Bay and Wright State had trouble getting things going offensively in the second quarter, as the two teams combined for only 21 points, four less than the Phoenix scored in the prior quarter.
Green Bay used a big third quarter to put the game out of reach for Wright State, outscoring the Raiders 12-4 in the paint and 18-8 in the quarter to lead 53-31.
Mehryn Kraker used her hot start to carry her all the way to a season-high 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting with a 6-of-8 mark from three-point range in 30 minutes. Jessica Lindstrom tallied her seventh double-double of the season, scoring 13 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. The junior also had four assists and two steals in 30 minutes. Lexi Weitzer finished with six points on 3-of-7 shooting and four rebounds in 18 minutes.
The Phoenix will return to the court on the road in 2017, taking on Valparaiso on Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. and UIC on Jan 7 at 3 p.m.
