Detroit Mercy's Bats Too Much for Green Bay in Series Opener
GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay softball team took the diamond at Phoenix Field this afternoon for the first time this season, welcoming Detroit Mercy for the first of a three-game series. The Titans offense was never slowed in the opener and went on to defeat the Phoenix 14-3.

Detroit Mercy (9-26, 6-4) set the tone in the opening inning of play with a Jordan Manno home run that brought the Titans’ Villagrana around to score.
The Phoenix (2-22, 1-9) added two runs in the bottom of the first off Allie Taylor’s fourth home run of the season to knot the game at 2-2, but the Titan bats picked up where they left off and plated six runs in the second. Alyssa James capped the inning with a bases-clearing double to give the Titans a six run lead, 8-2.
From there, Detroit Mercy added three more in the third to increase its advantage to nine and after Green Bay plated a single run in the bottom of the third, the Titans tacked on three more in the fifth to take an 11-run lead and eventually, the series opener, 14-3.
Kate Rossman spent 4.2 innings in the circle for the Phoenix in the loss, allowing 12 hits, 11 runs and collecting one strikeout. Liz Murphy picked up the win for Detroit Mercy after dealing for five innings, allowing six hits and three runs.
Green Bay had six hits on the afternoon, three of which came from Hailee Frey in a perfect 3-for-3 outing with two doubles.
The series concludes with a doubleheader afternoon with games scheduled to be played at Phoenix Field at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
