Du Chateau Shoots Final Round 66, Ties for 3rd at Wright State Invite
DAYTON, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Senior Joe Du Chateau led the Green Bay men’s golf team at the Wright State Invitational at Miami Valley Golf Club in the final found on Tuesday morning, shooting a 66 and finishing 1-under for the tournament. The team finished fifth overall, but Du Chateau finished T-3rd thanks to the lowest round score in the tournament.
Du Chateau recorded a tournament-high seven birdies in the final round, the most in any round by any player in the tournament. He finished with just two bogeys and went for a 5-under 66 to climb from 12th place after two rounds into third place.
“I started to get a feel for things again with my swing in the second round and was able to hit some shots that I had been missing. I built off that going into today and things just started to fall into place. Hit more greens and was hitting closer to the pin, so I was able to capitalize and make some putts,” Du Chateau said.
A second round 1-under score of 70 by Du Chateau gave him momentum and confidence heading into the final day. The 66 is the best round by any Phoenix golfer this spring season.
The team finished 59-over par, taking fifth place behind tournament-champion Wittenberg (+15), Wright State (+37), Northern Kentucky (+38) and Valparaiso (+44), respectively. The team shot its best in the second round (370), but was unable to make up ground in the final 18.
The Phoenix will hit the links again in the Tennessee State Invite in Nashville, Tenn., at the Hermitage Golf Club on Apr. 10-11.
