DE PERE, Wis. ( – The Green Bay softball team closed out its series with Wright State at the Mel Nicks Sports Complex in De Pere, Wis., on Sunday afternoon, falling short against the Raiders (9-16, 4-2) after forcing extra innings, 5-3.

Wright State 5, Green Bay 3

The Phoenix (1-16, 0-3) was the first to get on the board in the weekend finale with Wright State, doing so in the fourth inning when Allie Taylor sent a shot over the left-center fence for her third home run of the season.

Wright State didn’t search long for the game-tying run, plating Rhodeback who was selected to pinch run after Cook opened the top of the fifth with a double to left. Rhodeback was knocked in by a Dillow liner that slipped through the left side, tying the game at one-all.

The Raiders would go on to score the next two runs of the game in the sixth inning to take its for lead of the matchup, 3-1. Green Bay slowly chipped away at the two-run deficit by plating one run in the sixth after Olivia Magaldi hit a deep fly ball to right field that allowed Abby Brinkmeir to score from third.

Needing one run to tie in the bottom of the seventh, Alexis Otto led things off with a walk to put the tying run on base for the Phoenix. After a few calculated offensive plays by Green Bay, Bailey Schultz was able to reach home and tie the game, 3-3, after Chyanne Onstad pushed one to the right side that offered no play on Schultz.

Wright State added a pair of runs to its total in the top of the eighth after Peterson homered to left-center with Marquez on second, giving the Raiders a 5-3 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.

The Phoenix was unable to get anything going offensively in its last appearances at the play, going three up, three down to end the game and give the Raiders a 5-3 win.

Green Bay’s next action will come on Tuesday, April 4 at Valparaiso in a doubleheader with games scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
