CHICAGO, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Closing out its first road trip of 2017, the Green Bay (13-2, 4-0) women’s basketball team used a strong second half to win its fifth-straight game and defeat UIC (3-12, 0-4) 79-65 at the UIC Pavilion on Saturday afternoon. Mehryn Kraker scored 26 points in the victory and moved into a tie for 10th place on Green Bay’s all-time scoring list with Kayla Tetschlag at 1,372 career points.

Green Bay’s offense came out firing in the first quarter of play, burying back-to-back triples from Kraker and Jessica Lindstrom to jump out to a 6-0 lead over UIC. By the end of the quarter, the Phoenix had worked to a 19-10 lead over the Flames, with Kraker, Lindstrom and Laken James all contributing five points.

UIC stormed back to open the second quarter, scoring eight unanswered points to lower the deficit to a single point, 19-18. The remainder of the quarter was back and forth between the two programs, as the Phoenix headed to the locker clutching to a one-point lead, 34-33. The Flames shot 50% (6-fo-12) from long range in the opening half, the highest by any Phoenix opponent this season.

The Phoenix began taking control once again in the third quarter, as Green Bay began a 14-6 run at the 7:03 mark when Allie LeClaire sent a triple through the net to regain the lead, 41-39. By the end of the quarter, Green Bay had built its lead up to 53-45.

The Phoenix was unable to be slowed offensively in the fourth quarter and UIC was unable to keep pace, as Green Bay went on to win its fifth-straight game and move to 4-0 in Horizon League play, 79-65.

Allie LeClaire scored 20 points this afternoon and doled out a career-high nine assists in 35 minutes. The junior also grabbed four rebounds, blocked one shot and finished 6-of-10 from the field. Sam Terry scored 11 points on a 5-of-6 shooting clip and pulled down three rebounds in 12 minutes. Jessica Lindstrom was just one basket shy of adding another double-double to her resume, finishing with eight points and 11 rebounds in 29 minutes. This was the ninth game of the season in which Lindstrom recorded double-digit rebounds this season.

The Phoenix will now enjoy four-straight games within the friendly confines of the Kress Center, opening the home stand by welcoming Detroit Mercy on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.
