GREEN BAY, Wis. ( Green Bay women’s soccer team placed two student-athletes on All-Horizon League teams, as Katie Schulz collected second-team honors and Alyssa Barnes was named to the all-freshman team.

Schulz, the lone captain for the women’s squad this year, started in every match for the Phoenix and directed Green Bay's backline. She netted one goal on the season and was second on the team in shots on goal despite being a defender.

“Katie is our captain, our leader and the backbone of our defense," head coach Kim Brandao said. "Her presence on and off the field will be missed, and her commitment and dedication to our program is second to none. We are thrilled she ended her playing career with this award.”

Barnes, a freshman defender for the Phoenix, appeared in all 16 matches and showed a lot of promise in her first year with the team. She, along with Schulz, aided the Phoenix defense as well as the Green Bay attack when necessary.

“We are beyond proud of Alyssa and her all-freshman team achievement," Brandao said. "Since day one of the season she has risen to the top and quickly became an impact player for us. It is great to see her hard work and talent pay off with this award. This is just the beginning, and we look forward to seeing her earn even more in the coming seasons.”
