VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Green Bay swimming team spent their first dual meet of the 2016-17 season at Valparaiso on Saturday, with the both the men’s and women’s squad coming home victorious.
The Phoenix women scored 173 points to Valparaiso’s 83, while the men put up 153 points over Valparaiso’s 99. There was no diving competition at this meet.
“Thanks to Coach Howard and his team for hosting us,” said second-year head coach Reed Robelet. “It’s good for us to kick the season off with a road win and start building our momentum into the fall dual meet season. We’ll need to keep our attention on the details while adding to our workload. These next few meets will go to the team(s) that are able to stay mentally and physically sharp as everyone’s training escalates.”
Friederick won every event she swam, both relays and the 100 yard backstroke (58.03) and 100 yard freestyle (54.18). Garvin won each of her events, one relay and two individual events, the 200 yard freestyle (1:57.21) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:11.04). Garcia won all three of the events he raced in, both relays and the 50 yard freestyle (21.95), where he was the only man under the 22-second mark.
The Green Bay Phoenix swimming and diving team will make the trip to Milwaukee next Saturday for the All-Wisconsin Invite.
