GREEN BAY, Wis. ( – Green Bay senior golfers Gene Kiela III (Plymouth, Wis.), and Sammi Grunder (Pardeeville, Wis.), were both named to the Horizon League Second-Team All-League roster, the League announced Thursday.

Kiela claimed the top finish by a Green Bay golfer in all four tournaments this spring, finishing in the top five in each one. The Phoenix senior claimed his best finish of the season at the Jackrabbit Invitational in early March, finishing in a tie for third place and even-par for the tournament in Primm, Nevada. Later that week he was named the Horizon League Co-Golfer of the Week. Kiela shot back-to-back rounds of 70 at the Jackrabbit Invitational, and fired a season-low 69 at the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate in Springfield, Missouri.

Grunder also claimed a Horizon League Golfer of the Week award after earning medalist honors in a dual match at Valparaiso. The Pardeeville, Wis. native shot the best score in the field in both the first and final rounds to secure the individual win. Grunder also claimed a top-five finish at the Lady EagleCat Invitational in Daytona Beach, Florida, in mid-March, bouncing back from a tough first round to fire a season-best 74 to finish in a tie for fifth place.

“I couldn't be more happy and proud of Gene and Sammi being named Second Team All-Horizon League,” said head golf coach Lee Reinke. “They have both had an outstanding spring, have worked extremely hard, and it's really great to see their efforts rewarded in this way. I feel they are both going to have an outstanding showing this weekend at the Horizon League Championship.”

The League’s head coaches voted on the awards, with coaches not allowed to vote for their own players.

Both Kiela and Grunder will be in action with their respective teams at the Horizon League Championships, being held April 22-24 at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Orlando, Florida.
