Kiela Nabs Another Top 5, Golf Ends Regular Season
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Another golf tournament, another top-five finish for Green Bay senior Gene Kiela III (Plymouth, Wis.).
Kiela paced the Phoenix yet again on Tuesday, finishing in a tie for fourth place at the Big Blue Invitational, hosted by Tennessee State at The Hermitage Golf Club. The Plymouth native recorded top-five finishes in all four tournaments the team played in this fall season. Kiela finished the first round of play in a tie for seventh place. He fired a 71 in the final round to climb three spots up the leaderboard and finish even-par for the tournament. Kiela holed the second-most birdies of any player in the tournament with nine total, trailing only the individual champion from Belmont. Kiela also recorded one eagle.
Senior Ryan Reinke (Brillion, Wis.), played a solid round on Tuesday, shooting a 72 to finish tied for 31st. Reinke was among the leaders in pars made with 24 total in the tournament. Reinke and Joe Du Chateau (Fond du Lac, Wis.), began the final round tied for 48th, but Du Chateau bounced back as well, shooting a 73 to finish tied for 35th place. The Fond du Lac native found success on the par threes, matching Kiela at two-over par combined on all par-three holes in the tournament. Green Bay finished in 11th place in the 14 team field.
