Kiela, Du Chateau Claim Top 10 Finishes at WSU Invite
DAYTON, Ohio. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Two Green Bay men’s golfers finished in the top ten thanks to strong showings in the final round of the Wright State Invitational Tuesday. The start time for the final round was pushed back a couple hours to allow temperatures to creep up, but golfers still battled the elements for the majority of the tournament.
Gene Kiela III (Plymouth, Wis.), sank five birdies in the final round of play, finishing in fifth place and five shots back of the leader. Kiela has finished in the top five in all three events the Phoenix has competed in this spring. The Green Bay senior was a model of consistency in Dayton, shooting 73, 72, 73 in each of the first three rounds, respectively.
Fellow senior Joe Du Chateau (Fond du Lac, Wis.), saw massive improvement between his first round and final-round scores. Du Chateau finished in a tie for 10th place after firing a final-round 72 on Tuesday, which was preceded by a 73 in the second round and a 78 on the first 18 holes. The Fond du Lac native holed four birdies in his final round.
Green Bay finished in fifth place in the nine-team field. The Phoenix will compete at the TSU Big Blue Invite, hosted by Tennessee State in Nashville next Monday and Tuesday, April 11-12. It will be the final regular-season competition for the Phoenix before it travels to Orlando, Fla., to take part in the Horizon League Championships, April 22-24.
