Grunder Cards Top-Three Finish at Whistling Straits
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Green Bay senior Sammi Grunder paced the Phoenix at Whistling Straits Tuesday, finishing in a tie for third place and one shot back of second.
Grunder fired an opening-round 81 Monday, then bested that by four strokes by carding a second-round 77. The elements at the course along the shores of Lake Michigan proved challenging in the final round Tuesday, but Grunder was able to battle her way to an 84 and finish in the top three.
Junior Avery Steen (Luck, Wis.) also shot a final-round 84 Tuesday, good enough to land her in a three-way tie for ninth place. Senior Steph Laude (Slinger, Wis.) recorded another top-25 finish, shooting an opening-round 78 and finishing in 16th place.
Green Bay finished fifth as a team in the nine-team tournament, only two shots back of landing in a tie for third.
The Phoenix have wrapped up fall competition and will take the winter off before returning to action in the spring of 2016.
