GREEN BAY, Wis. ( – Excited to begin the 2014 campaign, interim head coach Marc Baumbach has announced the men’s soccer schedule for the upcoming season.

Green Bay will play 10 of its 18 games this season on the road, despite opening the season with back-to-back home matches in four days. The Phoenix will open up with Grand Canyon (Aug. 29) and DePaul (Sept. 1) on Labor Day weekend at home.

“I’m really looking forward to the quality in our non-conference opponents this season,” Baumbach said. “With teams from the Big East, WAC, MAC and Big Ten on the schedule, we will face some great challenges before we begin league play.”

Following the season-opening weekend at home, the Phoenix will visit Drake (Sept. 5) and Western Illinois (Sept. 7) before returning to Santaga Stadium to take on Viterbo (Sept. 12).

The Phoenix will continue the non-conference portion of the schedule with a trip to Northern Illinois (Sept. 14) and a home contest against Western Michigan (Sept. 19). A road match at IPFW (Sept. 21) precedes the most exciting home match on the 2014 schedule when rival Milwaukee visits Santaga Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 1, under the lights at 7 p.m.

The Panthers are one of two NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago on this year’s schedule, and are the reigning Horizon League Champions. This Chancellor’s Cup battle will also serve as the conference opener for the Phoenix as it will look to keep the Cup in Green Bay after winning in Milwaukee last season.

After a road contest at Horizon League-foe Oakland (Oct. 4), Green Bay faces its second NCAA Tournament team from 2013 when it travels to Madison to face in-state rival Wisconsin (Oct. 7).

“Opening the season with two games at home will give us a great advantage to start 2014 off on the right foot,” Baumbach said.

Green Bay continues conference play with a trip to Detroit (Oct. 11) followed by home visits from UIC (Oct. 15) and Wright State (Oct. 18). The final non-conference match of the season will be played at Eastern Illinois (Oct. 21).

Two of the final three conference matches of the season will be played on the road, starting with a trip to Nashville to take on Belmont (Oct. 25). Valparaiso (Nov. 1) comes to Green Bay before the Phoenix wrap up the season at Cleveland State (Nov. 7).

The Phoenix logged an even 7-7-3 record in 2013 and a 2-4-1 mark in Horizon League play. Two of the three program’s All-League performers from a season ago return in 2014, as Lawrence Talery (Coon Rapids, Minn.) and All-Freshman Team member Audi Jepson (Green Bay, Wis.) return to Green Bay.
