GREEN BAY, Wis. ( – With spring commencement and final exams for the spring semester in the rearview mirror, it is time to start looking ahead to the 2014-15 Green Bay men’s basketball season, beginning with the roster breakdown. With the recent signing of Henry Uwadiae and the newcomers selecting their numbers, the 2014-15 Phoenix roster appears set.

Led by reigning Horizon League Player of the Year Keifer Sykes (Chicago, Ill.), the Phoenix will have five seniors on the roster in 2014-15. Including Sykes, four of those seniors hail from Chicago, with Greg Mays and Josh Humphrey finishing out four-year careers and Alfonzo McKinnie playing his final season after transferring to Green Bay before the 2012-13 campaign.

Humphrey played last season as a redshirt sophomore, but plans to classify as a senior in 2014-15, exhaust his eligibility and graduate in the spring of 2015.

The fifth senior is Lamin Fulton (Philadelphia, Pa.), a 5-10 guard that joined the team last season from the junior college ranks. The five seniors will mark the most on a Phoenix roster under Wardle’s watch and the most for a Phoenix team since the 1993-94 squad.

For the first time as a head coach, Brian Wardle will be coaching a team without Alec Brown on the roster. However, Wardle will still have lots of height and length at his disposal. The 13 Phoenix players have an average height of 6-foot-4.875 with the sophomore newcomer Uwadaie standing the tallest at 6-foot-11 with a 7-foot-5 wingspan.

Mays (6-9), McKinnie (6-8), Kenneth Lowe (6-8), Jordan Fouse (6-7) and Turner Botz (6-7) join Uwadiae to give the Phoenix six players at 6-foot-7 or higher.

One of the most exciting aspects for players joining the program is selecting a uniform number for their first Phoenix jersey. Three newcomers picked out their numbers recently, with Uwadiae electing to don No. 50 and freshman guards Daeshon Francis (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Khalil Small (Chicago, Ill.) choosing to wear numbers 23 and 3, respectively.

The 2014-15 version of the Phoenix will have an international flavor, featuring players from two other countries. Sophomore Tevin Findlay (Malton, Ontario) represents Canada while Uwadiae hails originally from Benin City, Nigeria. Green Bay will also have players from four different states, including five from Illinois, four from Wisconsin and one each from Indiana and Pennsylvania.

Led by Sykes (94) and Mays (89), Green Bay’s roster includes players that have appeared in 463 games in a Phoenix uniform. Sykes has missed just one game in his career while juniors Fouse and Carrington Love (Milwaukee, Wis.) appeared in all 65 games of their first two college seasons. After starting all 65 games in the past two seasons, Fouse ranks second on the squad behind Sykes (92) in games started.

Green Bay loses a three-time All-Horizon League performer in Brown, but returns four starters (Sykes, Love, Fouse and Mays) and 10 players overall. In 2013-14, those 10 players accounted for 73.5 percent of the team’s points, 79.1 percent of the rebounds and 86.7 percent of the assists.

IN 2014-15...
Green Bay will take the floor as the reigning Horizon League regular season champs. Sykes is the reigning Horizon League Player of the Year after averaging 20.3 points, 4.9 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game as a junior. Mays was a double-digit scorer at 10.3 points per game and shot 58.6 percent from the field, and Fouse is a two-time Horizon League All-Defensive Team selection with a career rebounding average of 7.7.

Wardle, the 2014 Horizon League Coach of the Year, enters his fifth season at the helm of the program with a 71-56 overall record. He is slated to welcome back his entire coaching staff, including associate head coach Brian Barone, assistant coaches Chrys Cornelius and Jimmie Foster, director of basketball operations Colin Schneider and video coordinator Rick Karius.
