GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – On Sunday night at the Kress Events Center, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Green Bay Athletics will be hosting the inaugural Golden Phlashes. The awards show will recognize Phoenix student-athletes and programs for numerous accomplishments throughout 2013-14.

At the beginning of the show, each of Green Bay’s 16 sport programs will hand out Golden Phlashes for Team MVP, Most Improved and the Coaches Award. Specialty Golden Phlashes will also be given out for the Strength and Conditioning Award, the Athletic Training Award, the Faculty Athletes Representative Award, Team GPA and the Community Service Award.

The awards show will conclude with the Golden Phlashes voting awards, which were voted on from a list of nominees by Phoenix student-athletes. Each of the 16 Phoenix programs submitted a ballot and cast two votes per award. Teams were allowed to split their votes for two different nominees or cast both votes for the same nominee. The awards list, nominees and presenters can be found below.

Matt Menzl, the play-by-play voice of the men’s basketball team, will serve as the emcee for the night. Men’s tennis junior Howard Scott (Exeter, England) and volleyball junior Taylor Kasal (Westmont, Ill.) will be hosting the Green Carpet Preshow and interviewing select nominees and presenters.

Among women's teams, the women's basketball program leads the way with seven nominations while women's swimming and diving and volleyball are each nominated in five categories.

The men's basketball program is represented with nine nominations while the men's tennis program has seven nominations.

The event is not open to the public, but we encourage Phoenix fans to follow along for award winners, highlights and pictures on Facebook and Twitter. The hashtag #phlashes will be used throughout the night.
