Burdette Adds Lydia DeWeese to 2014 Green Bay Volleyball Roster
GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – First-year Green Bay volleyball head coach Sean Burdette has announced his first addition to his 2014 roster, as 6-foot-2 middle Lydia DeWeese (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne HS) has inked a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to join the Phoenix in the fall.
“I am very excited to add Lydia to this year’s signing class,” Burdette said. “She epitomizes the characteristics that we are looking for in a Phoenix student-athlete. Lydia is coming to us from a very strong Junior Olympic club in the Columbus Volleyball Academy. With her height and wing span, she brings length and a strong blocking presence to our middle blocker position.”
DeWeese – her team’s captain – was a first-team all-conference and all-district second team selection in 2013, helping Worthington Kilbourne High School to a Ohio Capital Conference championship while setting the school record for the most wins in a season (22-4, 15-2 conference). She was also an all-conference scholar-athlete honoree in 2013 and an honorable mention all-conference pick in 2012.
DeWeese becomes the fifth member of Green Bay’s incoming class, as Halle Barnabo (River Falls, Wis.), Abby Jeffcoat (Racine, Wis.), Beth Kuske (Germantown, Wis.) and Taylor Totka (Racine, Wis.) have also signed to play for the Phoenix. The group joins a talented Phoenix squad that is coming off a 9-5 mark in Horizon League play in 2013 and returns a trio of postseason award-winners.
