Softball Starts 2014 Campaign at Hilltopper Spring Classic

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay softball team is ready to get its season underway as it opens its 2014 slate of competition at the Holiday Inn Hilltopper Spring Classic hosted by Western Kentucky February 28-March 2.
Green Bay will open against the host Hilltoppers at 10:30 a.m. before taking on IUPUI at 1 p.m. The team will then face Indiana State (10:30 a.m.) and Northern Iowa (3:30 p.m.) on Saturday before closing the weekend against Wright State (10:30 a.m.) on Sunday.

Scouting Western Kentucky: Roster Schedule Stats
Host Western Kentucky enters the weekend with an overall record of 9-4-1 and will be hosting a home tournament for the second-consecutive weekend. The Hilltoppers went a clean 4-0 last weekend in the Hilltopper Spring Fling with wins against Canisius, Miami (Ohio), and Bradley. Olivia Watkins leads the Hilltopper offense with a .531 batting average and is one of three players to bat .300 or above. Hannah Minlard paces the Western Kentucky pitching staff with a 1.58 ERA over 31.0 innings pitched with a 4-0 record and 34 strikeouts.
Scouting IUPUI: Roster Schedule Stats
IUPUI owns a record of 5-6 early in the season, most recently dropping two of three games at the Louisville Cardinal Classic last weekend. The Jaguars topped Northern Kentucky 21-5 before falling to host Louisville and Central Michigan. Sophomore Alyssa Neff leads seven Jaguar players batting over .300 at .464 with 13 hits and three RBI’s. Senior Jocelyn Oppenhuis leads the pitching staff with a 4.10 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 27.1 innings pitched.
Scouting Indiana State: Roster Schedule Stats
After losing three of four games in its first weekend of competition, the Sycamores responded to win all four of its games at the TSU Tiger Classic last weekend in Nashville. Indiana State started with a win against Horizon League opponent Youngstown State before topping Dayton, Temple and Tennessee State. Freshman Erika Crissman is hitting a team-best .500 with a .583 on-base percentage. Sophomore pitcher Taylor Lockwood has not allowed a run in her last 15.0 innings to lead the staff.
Scouting Northern Iowa: Roster Schedule Stats
The Panthers are 8-5 this season, most recently going 2-2 at the Florida State Unconquered Invitational last weekend with wins against Florida A&M and Charleston Southern while being handed two defeats by UC-Santa Barbara. Julia Hunter leads the team hitting .659, while Jamie Fisher has thrown five complete games with a 2.90 ERA.
Scouting Wright State: Roster Schedule Stats
Wright State is winless (0-5) in the early going after losing five games at the USF Tournament over Valentines weekend. The Raiders fell to Illinois, South Florida, Pittsburgh, Binghamton and Tennessee. Wright State is led offensively by freshman infielder Libby Pfeffer, who is the lone Raider player hitting over .300, at .357. In the circle for the Raiders, sophomore Montana Wear leads the pitching staff with a 5.69 ERA over 19.2 innings pitched with 13 strikeouts.
