GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men’s soccer team recently announced its spring schedule for the upcoming months, unveiling a slate of seven games over three months.
The spring schedule features opponents that were all national tournament teams in their respective divisions last fall, including making tournaments at the NCAA Division I, Division II and NAIA levels. It also allows for the potential to have matchups with all three DI in-state schools.
The season kicks off on March 1 at Wisconsin with a 3 p.m. matchup at the McClain Center in Madison. The Badgers finished last season 14-5-2 overall, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before losing to Notre Dame.
Green Bay will then play doubleheader games on back-to-back days on April 26 and 27. The Phoenix will take part in the Wisconsin Division I College Cup hosted by Marquette on April 26, facing the hosts in game one before facing either Milwaukee or Madison in game two of the series. The squad will then travel to Northwestern on April 27 to play the Wildcats at noon and Lewis at 2 p.m.
Marquette ended its season 13-6-2 overall qualified for the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the second round before losing 3-1 to Virginia. Milwaukee fell in the first round of the tournament to in-state rival Wisconsin, 1-0. Northwestern lost 3-2 in overtime to Bradley in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, while Lewis advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division II tournament before being eliminated by Rockhurst, 2-0.
The spring slate ends on May 3 as the Phoenix travels to Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee to face Bradley at noon and Cardinal Stritch at 2 p.m.
Bradley made it to the second round of the NCAA Division I tournament before being knocked out by California, while Cardinal Stritch fell to Ashford, 3-2, in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament.
