Warren Announces Five Newcomers to Phoenix Women's Soccer

GREEN BAY, Wis. ( – The Green Bay women’s soccer program is excited to announce the names of five women who will join the Phoenix for the 2014 season after signing National Letters of Intent.

Green Bay welcomes Megan Diamond, Maggie Fuller, Katherine Leskowicz, Leah Nitardy and Alex Zeller as the newest members of the Phoenix women’s soccer program. 

“I’m very pleased to welcome these five very talented players into the Green Bay program,” head coach Trevor Warren said. “This is a strong group of freshmen all of whom can have an instant impact and I am very excited for them to join us in the fall. They will certainly allow us to take another big step this season towards the Horizon League crown.” 

Megan Diamond
Megan Diamond
Hometown: Winnipeg, Manitoba
High School: Westwood Collegiate
Club Team: Portage Trail SC

- Top goal scorer and captain at Westwood Collegiate
- Helped lead the Portage Trail SC to a provincial championship in 2013, where she was named the tournament MVP
- Served as team captain for Portage Trail SC
- Was also a guest player for the Phoenix Fury senior women’s team

Coach Warren on Megan: “Megan is a strong physical striker who can not only get in behind defenses but is also very good at holding up the ball with her back to goal. She has represented the Manitoba Provincial team and was voted the Provincial Tournament MVP in 2013. She is the leading scorer for her Westwood Collegiate High School and her Portage Trail Soccer Club team. We are fortunate to get one of Manitoba’s most prolific strikers.”

Maggie Fuller
Maggie Fuller

Hometown: Waukesha, Wis.
High School: Waukesha West
Club Team: SC – Waukesha

- Helped lead the team to three state tournament appearances, including two runner-up finishes
- Earned three varsity letters for one of the top D-I schools in the state
- Took home Classic 8 All-Conference recognition last season
- Will serve as team captain this spring
- Plays club soccer for SC-Waukesha
- Voted club captain in 2013
- Helped squad to a second-place finish in the Midwest Regional league

Coach Warren on Maggie: “Maggie is a member of the Wisconsin ODP team and was a holdover for the 2013 regional camp. Maggie is a tall physically imposing center midfielder with great passing range and the ability to make very strong penetrating runs from her midfield position. Because of her passing strength she is also a threat to score from outside the box.”

Katherine (KK) Leskowicz
Katherine Leskowicz

Hometown: Racine, Wis.
High School: Racine Horlick
Club Team: SC – Waukesha

- Three-year varsity starter
- Three-time all-conference and all-county honoree
- Helped lead Racine Horlick to two sectional finals
- Helped SC-Waukesha to a second-place finish in the Midwest Regional League
- Sister played collegiately at Millikin University

Coach Warren on Katherine: “KK is a tough hardworking fullback who has a tenacity and determination to her game. A fierce competitor who likes to get forwards into the attack and is very comfortable on the ball. She is versatile enough to play on either side of the field. KK was another member of my Wisconsin ODP team with Maggie Fuller.”

Leah Nitardy
Leah Nitardy

Hometown: Stillwater, Minn.
High School: Stillwater
Club Team: St. Croix Academy

- Earned all-conference honors the past two seasons
- Named the team MVP past two seasons
- Serves as team captain
- Part of St. Croix Academy squad that earned a Disney/ESPN Championship title and Midwest Regional League premiere status

Coach Warren on Leah: “Leah has been a starting midfielder for one of the top teams in the region for several years. An incredibly hardworking and confident midfielder Leah has a great understanding of the game at the highest level. She is a very accurate passer, and has the ability to play clever passes behind opposing defenses. She has the talent to be an outstanding college player.”

Alex Zeller
Alex Zeller

Hometown: Dundee, Ill.
High School: St. Edward Central Catholic
Club Team: Heat United

- Varsity starter all four years
- Earned all-area and all-conference honors in 2013
- Also received the Hampshire High School Amanda Walker Golden Boot Award as the team’s top goal scorer
- Helped Heat United to a U18 Midwest Regional League first division championship
- Father played collegiately at Northern Illinois

Coach Warren on Alex: “Alex is a strong athletic forward with a nose for the goal. She is a threat to score from anywhere near the target and is a very composed and confident striker. Alex makes very good decisions with the ball and does a great job of bringing her team mates into the attack. Alex is very clever with the ball at her feet and has the ability to take on defenders 1 v 1.”
