GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – After posting her fourth 20+ point performance in five Horizon League games against Wright State on Saturday, Green Bay sophomore Kaili Lukan (Barrie, Ontario) was tabbed the Horizon League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
It is the first player of the week honor for the Phoenix this season, and also the first in Lukan’s career. Oakland’s Nola Anderson was named the conference freshman of the week.
Against Wright State on Saturday, Lukan finished the game with 23 points, four assists, two steals and two rebounds in 37 minutes of action. Shooting 60.0 percent (9-15) from the field, Lukan started the game a perfect 3-for-3 including making the first field goal of the game while also having a hand in five of the first six baskets for the Phoenix (3 FG, 2 ast.). In addition to her hot start to the game she also was key in helping secure the game as it drew to a close. Lukan forced a turnover with four seconds remaining to help seconds tick off the clock and delay a last-second opportunity for the Raiders.
This season Lukan leads the team in points per game (13.3) and minutes played (32.1) and is second shooting 49.1 percent (82-167) from the field. In five Horizon League games she is averaging a team-best 20.2 points while shooting 57.4 percent (39-68) from the field and 79.2 percent (19-24) from the free throw line. Her conference-only points total and shooting percentage stands third in the Horizon League statistics.
Lukan and the Phoenix will return to the court on Thursday for a stretch of three games in five days, starting at Oakland.
