Nothing about the way Parker Wolf swims is slow.  Even something as powerful as cancer can't halt her progress.

"That's what people want you to do," Wolf said. "Just thinking you're going to stop. I didn't want it to stop me in any way."

Wolf is the captain of the undefeated Green Bay Phoenix women's Swimming and Diving team, but it was a birthday in high school that would pit her against her toughest opponent.

"Usually kids get a car, but I got cancer."

The diagnosis? Stage two Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Her doctor broke the news a day after Wolf swam in the WIAA State Championships her junior year.

No cars, just chemotherapy.

"I got an IV in my port and different fluids for 2 hours. Then I'd go home, go back the next day," Wolf said. "Basically sit on my couch for the rest of the week and try not to get sick too much."

Parker's battle with Cancer went into remission after four chemotherapy sessions, at which point, she turned her attention right back to the pool. She would go through 8 for rounds good measure. Losing her hair after the final treatment.

She returned to State in her senior season before signing a letter of intent with Green Bay, impressing coaches and teammates alike.

"It blew my mind that she was that fast, that dedicated and she went through all of that," said teammate and roommate of 3.5 years Kelsey Johnson.

With Wolf's help, the Phoenix won a conference title her freshmen year, but it was an experience working with a 6 year old cancer survivor at a camp that truly changed Wolf's perspective.

"All summer I couldn't get her to swim in the deep end," she said. "and then, one day, her mom told her I was a cancer survivor. By the end of the summer I had her swimming in the pool and diving in the deep end."

"She won in life," said Phoenix head coach Jim Merner, who started recruiting Wolf after she went into remission. "It's not so much she has to win her races and stuff like that, but on a daily basis she always puts forth everything that she has."

As she keeps winning on the division one level, Wolf has a passionate new message to spread.

"I want to be able to be an example to others [going through a similar situation]. You can succeed and get to bigger and higher levels."
