ANYUAN, China. (GreenBayPhoenix.com)
– After sweeping the first leg of the three-city, nine-game tournament, the NetScouts Team USA All-Star women’s basketball team left the tournament’s second city, Anyuan, with a 1-2 record. The team, featuring former Green Bay standouts Adrian Ritchie (De Pere, Wis.) and Stephanie Sension (Hopkins, Minn.), opened with a loss to Australia before a dominating win over Brazil. The Americans were then defeated by China in the final game. All four teams have now moved to Dong Xiang, China for the final leg of the 15-day tour.

Game 1: Australia 59, USA 49

Team USA was dealt the first loss of its Chinese tour in a 59-49 defeat against Australia. The Aussies outscored Team USA 22-13 in the third quarter and were able to hold on to secure the 10-point victory.

Ritchie scored two points and grabbed two rebounds with an assist and a steal, while Sension pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

Game 2: USA 85, Brazil 47

The red, white and blue rebounded from its first loss with a productive outing against Brazil in what head coach Chris Denker called “the best game of the tour.”

Team USA held Brazil to just 28 percent shooting while four Americans scored in double figures. Ritchie and Sension each scored eight points in the win with Ritchie adding four assists and a block, while Sension grabbed eight rebounds and two steals.

“I’m really happy for the players, they have been struggling and it sure is nice to see the ball go in the basket,” Denker said. “Everybody chipped in and gave us positive minutes, this was a team effort.”

Game 3: China 66, USA 53

The Chinese team bested Team USA 66-53 in the final game of the Anyuan leg of the tournament. The loss evened the Chinese and Americans both to 4-2 through six games.

Team USA shot just 20 percent from the floor in the first half and trailed by six at the break before an aggressive start to the second half. The Yanks pulled within five, but a 31 percent effort from the floor in the game didn’t match up with China’s 52 percent day from the field.

Ritchie chipped in six points and three rebounds while Sension grabbed six board and added three assists and two blocks.

The NetScouts Team USA All-Star Team is now in Dong Xiang for the final leg of the tournament, which wraps up on May 15.
