– The Green Bay women’s basketball team will have a new face on the bench for the 2013-14 season as head coach Kevin Borseth has hired Megan Vogel as an assistant coach on his staff. A 2007 WNBA draft pick, Vogel comes to Green Bay after serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Division II St. Cloud State University in Minnesota for the past three seasons.

“I’m extremely excited to have the opportunity to join a nationally respected program like Green Bay.  Coach Borseth and his staff have built a tremendous fan base and tradition of success that I can’t wait to be a part of,” Vogel said. “I’m eager and ready to hit the ground running in working with the team’s current players and get started on the recruiting trail.”

In addition to holding the position of recruiting coordinator at St. Cloud State, Vogel also served as the team’s head strength and conditioning coach, director of player development, academic coordinator and community service coordinator. During her three seasons with the Huskies, the program achieved a 44-36 record.

“Megan brings a lot of experience and success to our program and I’m really happy to have her on our staff,” Borseth said. “Her knowledge of the game and personal experiences both as a player and as a coach will help our team be successful next season.”

Vogel graduated from South Dakota State in May 2007 after starting all 120 of the Jackrabbits’ contests during her standout four-year career. She graduated with a degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation and finished second all-time on the program’s scoring list with 1,850 career points. In addition, she notched 194 career 3-point field goals and 783 career rebounds, good for the third- and fifth-best marks in program history. During her time with the program, she was an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American with a 3.8 cumulative GPA and a top 30 Finalist for the 2007 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Following her standout career with the Jackrabbits, Vogel became the first SDSU alum to be selected in the WNBA Draft when she was selected 19th overall in the second round by the Washington Mystics in 2007. She was released during training camp prior to the 2007 campaign, but remained with the team as an intern and practice player for the season while helping with film breakdown and scouting opponents.

She returned to South Dakota State in August 2007 as a graduate assistant coach where she helped lead the program to a 23-7 record. She also completed her master’s degree while carrying an impressive 3.9 GPA in Sports Pedagogy with an emphasis in Sports Administration.

In April 2008 Vogel was added to the Minnesota Lynx’s training camp roster, but was released prior to the start of the season. In September of the same year, she made her debut for WWK Donau Ries in the German 1st League. She helped the team achieve a 7-7 record while leading the team in scoring at 18 points per game and leading the team and league in rebounds with 12 per game. She also made 88-of-110 free throw attempts, both team and league highs.

Following her professional playing career, she served as a volunteer assistant coach in her hometown at Saint Peter High School in Minnesota. Starting in fall 2009 she helped Minnesota State-Mankato to a 15-13 record as a volunteer assistant coach.

All told, South Dakota State, Minnesota State-Mankato and St. Cloud State achieved a combined 82-56 record with Vogel on their coaching staff.
