Postseason Props: Gilbertson Makes Her Last Game Her Best
GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – In Sunday night’s gut-wrenching 75-71 loss for the Green Bay women’s basketball team, the Phoenix seniors shined once again. One senior – Jenny Gilbertson (Wabasha, Minn.) – shined brighter than she ever had in her career.
In the opening half, Gilbertson came off the bench with Green Bay leading 8-4. The first time Gilbertson touched the ball, she swished a three-pointer from the left wing.
After halftime, Gilbertson was tremendous as Green Bay rallied from a large deficit. She made a jumper right after she checked in after LSU had built a 17-point lead.
The Phoenix was still trailing by 13 points with 6:41 to play when Gilbertson made back-to-back three-pointers to start a 9-0 spurt capped by a triple from classmate Sarah Eichler (Grafton, Wis.) that cut the lead to four with 5:06 remaining.
With the Lady Tigers lead back up to 10 points with three minutes to play, Gilbertson scored in the paint to begin a 10-3 run as Green Bay cut the margin to three with 49 seconds left.
Gilbertson finished the game with a career-high 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. The senior, who transferred to Green Bay after her freshman season at Kansas State, scored 12 of her 15 points after halftime. Gilbertson tied her career high with three makes from long range and also added six rebounds.
Including her 15 points and trio of three-pointers on Sunday, Gilbertson scored 296 points and made 45 three-pointers in her three seasons in a Phoenix uniform.
