GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – After learning of its first-round opponent, head coach Kevin Borseth and the Green Bay coaching staff has delved into film to familiarize themselves with Louisiana State and prepare a scouting report for the Phoenix. No. 11 seeded Green Bay (29-2) will play at No. 6 seed LSU (20-11) on Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. CT at the Maravich Center in Baton Rouge, La.

With the same seeding handed out, Green Bay and LSU met in the NCAA Tournament First Round at the Maravich Center. Despite falling to the Tigers 69-59, the trip to the tournament started the program’s current run of five-straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

While the seeds, opponent and location are the same, much has changed for both programs since that meeting in 2009. Both programs are under the direction of different head coaches, with Nikki Caldwell in her second season at LSU and Kevin Borseth in his first season of a second stint with Green Bay. Only one player on the current roster will remember that first meeting, redshirt senior Stephanie Sension (Hopkins, Minn.) who was inactive for that meeting. None of the other players on either 2009 roster are still active today.

As a member of the Southeastern Conference, LSU (20-11, 10-6) finished in sixth place in the conference standings and received an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Tigers had won seven games in a row, including three wins over ranked opponents, before falling to No. 12 Georgia in the SEC Tournament.

LSU ranks fourth in the SEC in field goal percentage and third in free-throw percentage. With the second-fewest three-point field goal makes (97) in the conference, the Lady Tigers have made nearly 88 percent of its field goals from inside the arc.

With 472 made free throws, LSU ranks first in the SEC in free throws made and attempted. Four different players – Theresa Plaisance (17.4), Adrienne Webb (14.1), Danielle Ballard (12.1) and Bianca Lutley (10.1) – average in double figures for the Lady Tigers, and each of the four players have made more than 70 free throws.

LSU boasts a frontline including three players listed at 6-foot-4 (Shanece McKinney and Derreyal Youngblood) and 6-foot-5 (Theresa Plaisance). Plaisance leads the team and is second in the SEC in scoring (17.4 ppg), but the other three Lady Tigers averaging in double figures are all guards.

G: #3 Bianca Lutley, Sr., 5-11 (10.1 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 3.0 apg, 46 steals)
G: #10 Adrienne Webb, Sr., 5-9 (14.1 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 1.0 apg, 38-110 3FGs)
G: #32 Danielle Ballard, Fr., 5-9 (12.1 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 3.0 spg, 2.7 apg, 76-116 FTs)
F: #55 Theresa Plaisance, Jr., 6-5 (17.4 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 2.8 bpg, 22-68 FGs, 130-180 FTs)
F: #23 Shanece McKinney, Jr., 6-4 (3.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 31 blocks, 59.0% FGs)

Green Bay’s five-member senior class will be playing in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in as many seasons and carry a 4-3 record into Sunday’s game. Last season, Adrian Ritchie and company ended the careers of a pair of accomplished Iowa State seniors on its home court, and will be aiming to do the same against LSU. Lady Tiger guards Adrienne Webb and Bianca Lutley have both had standout careers in Baton Rouge, with Webb totaling 1,311 career points.

The Lady Tigers have had a strong advantage in the Maravich Center historically. In the past four seasons, LSU is 48-15 at home and sports a 29-4 record on its home floor in non-conference play. This season, the Lady Tigers are 13-3 at the Maravich Center, losing its only home games to Tulane (66-64 OT), No. 9/10 Georgia (62-54) and No. 5/4 Kentucky (77-72).

Green Bay and LSU will make it a goal to get in the paint and get easy baskets or trips to the free-throw line on Sunday night. The Lady Tigers use an ability to alter and block shots in the paint (5.1 per game) to make easy buckets tougher to find. Green Bay has a statistical advantage on the perimeter, making 7.5 three-pointers per game compared to an average of just 3.1 threes for LSU. The Phoenix has made 232 three-pointers while LSU has knocked down 97 shots from long range.
