Phoenix Looks to Push Winning Streak to 12 Games Against UIC

GREEN BAY, Wis. ( - Winners of 11 straight games, the RV/RV Green Bay women's basketball team (16-2, 6-0 HL) returns home for the first time since Jan. 12 after winning the last four games on the road. The Phoenix will host UIC (6-13, 2-4 HL) on Saturday at 2 p.m.

In its last contest, Green Bay felt right at home at Wright State's Nutter Center, where the Phoenix turned a 37-9 lead into a 49-14 halftime advantage. Wright State shot just 2-26 (7.7 percent) from the field in the first half, and was held without a field goal for the first 14:26 of the game. The Raiders outscored Green Bay in the second half, but the Phoenix was able to come away with a 70-48 victory.

Redshirt junior Breannah Ranger (Skokie, Ill.) tied her career high with 14 points and added eight rebounds, while Green Bay again contained Horizon League Preseason Player of the Year Kim Demmings. After scoring a career-low three points in the first meeting this season, Demmings scored just six points on 1-7 shooting and had four turnovers. In two meetings this season, Demmings went 2-20 from the floor with only nine points and 11 turnovers.

SCOUTING UIC: The Flames travel up I-43 on a three-game losing streak, with road losses at Wright State and Detroit, and most recently a home defeat to Youngstown State on Thursday. UIC is just 1-8 on the road this season, with the lone win coming across town at rival Loyola on Jan. 12.

ALL-TIME SERIES NOTES: Green Bay has had more success against UIC than any other Horizon League team. The Phoenix owns a 57-6 series record, including a perfect 31-0 mark at home. Green Bay has also won six straight against the Flames.

Feb. 7, 1982
Green Bay hosts UIC for the first all-time meeting between the two programs, and comes away with a 65-54 win.

Jan. 7, 1987
The Phoenix rebounds from a road loss and defeats the Flames at home, sparking a 15-game winning streak in the series.

March 2, 1996
Green Bay wins a sloppy overtime battle against UIC, grabbing a 60-59 victory. The two teams combined for 51 turnovers and 35 fouls in the only overtime game in series history.

March 10, 2000
Green Bay defeats UIC 70-63 in the MCC Tournament, sparking another 15-game winning streak in the series. The  Phoenix shoots 51.2 percent from the field and connects on 26 of 33 attempts from the free throw line in the win.

Jan. 23, 2010
For the first time since the 1996-97 season, the No. 17 Phoenix drops back-to-back conference games after going 0-2 on its Chicago road trip. UIC comes away with an 81-72 upset, the last victory in the series for the Flames.

March 3, 2012
The Phoenix hosts UIC in the semifinal round of the 2012 Horizon League Tournament, and comes away with a 77-64 win. Adrian Ritchie scores 22 points, while Sarah Eichler addeds 19 on 7-8 shooting.

DOMINATING DEFENSE: Green Bay's defense ranks second nationally in NCAA Division I statistic rankings released on Jan. 28, allowing just 47.2 points per game. The Phoenix has held 13 of 18 opponents under 50 points this season, including 10 of 11 opponents during the 11-game winning streak.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE: Green Bay will hit the road again next Thursday for a battle at Loyola before returning home to play its next four games at home, starting with Alumni Night on Saturday, Feb. 9 against rival Milwaukee.
