GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The long awaited day is finally here. The Green Bay women's basketball team tipped off its first practice of the 2012-13 season under the leadership of new head coach Kevin Borseth Tuesday evening Oct. 2 at the Kress Events Center.
"It's exciting just to be back on the court with these girls and a new coach and begin our journey to see where the season takes us," said senior Adrian Ritchie (De Pere, Wis.)
"There are a lot of similarities like past practices but maybe just more emphasis on the little things," senior Sarah Eichler (Grafton, Wis.) said. "It was definitely more intense with less down time."
Under a new NCAA rule, for women only, teams are allowed to start practice 40 days before their first regular season game and can have 30 practices within the same timeframe. Regardless of how early or late the Phoenix can hit the court; the team is ready to work hard for what it hopes will be its 15th consecutive regular season Horizon League title.
"Every year the senior class doesn't want the streak to end on their watch and it's no different this year," Ritchie said. "We are going to work just as hard and bring the same intensity every day so we too can hang a banner."
Practice began with a few fundamental drills followed by intense, competitive team sequences which included a lot of talking and teaching from both coaches and the players themselves, something that was instilled during Borseth's first tenure with the Phoenix.
