Men's Golf Wins Shootout, Leads Home Invitational

GREEN BAY, Wis. ( - Led by an even-par 72 from senior Chad Ebert (Kenosha, Wis.), the Green Bay men's golf team won the Green Bay Shootout on Sunday at Green Bay Country Club with a 4-over par 292. Ebert's Phoenix team shot a 303 on a more blustery day on Monday in the first round of the Green Bay Division I Invitational, but Green Bay heads to Tuesday's final round leading the Green Bay B team by three strokes (306).

The Green Bay Invitational at the par-72, 7,097-yard course concludes on Tuesday morning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

On Sunday, Green Bay's A team's 292 bested the B team by 17 shots (309) while St. Norbert finished in third place at 321. Sophomore Tom Boockmeier (Green Bay, Wis.) and senior Cam Fuller (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) each posted rounds of 1-over 73 on Sunday while junior Dan Ozga (Edgerton, Wis.) rounded out the scoring with a 2-over 74.

Ebert, the 2012 Horizon League champion, opened his senior campaign with an even par round that included a back nine 34 and four birdies.

For the B squad, a trio of Phoenix golfers carded 5-over par 77s, including sophomores Tyler Schmidt (Jefferson, Wis.) and Chad Bonis (New Berlin, Wis.) and freshman Kyle Shafer (Spring Valley, Wis.). One shot behind them was junior Joseph Collard (Marinette, Wis.) with a 78.

On Monday, Green Bay welcomed eight schools to Green Bay Country Club for the 36-hole Green Bay Invitational. Butler and Chicago State joined two Green Bay teams for the Division I event, and the Phoenix A squad led the group with a 15-over 303.

Fuller opened his round with pars on the first 12 holes before birdying the 200-yard, par-3 13th hole. He finished the round at 2-over 74 to lead the A team. Bookmeier (75), Ozga (76) and Ebert (78) rounded out the team's scoring.

Schmidt sits at the top of the Division I field after a 1-over 73, the best Phoenix score of the day. Schmidt was 4-over after three holes before carding six birdies and playing his final 15 holes in 3-under par.

Collard shot a 75 on the strength of four birdies while Bonis made 11 pars en route to a first-round 77. Junior Sam Weber (Heartland, Wis.) rounded out the scoring rounds for the B team at 81.

The B squad is just three strokes back at 306 while Butler is in third (308) and Chicago State sits in fourth place (392). In the non-Division I event, Indianapolis leads the pack after a 3-under 295 with Lewis (308), Central (309), Concordia-St. Paul (314), St. Ambrose (321) and St. Norbert (325) rounding out the field.
