Flying with the Phoenix: Valentin's Surprise Ride
GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Eric Valentin (Orlando, Fla.) had many memorable moments as a walk-on junior on the Green Bay men's basketball team in 2010-11. He broke the Guinness World Record for most halfcourt shots made in a minute. He appeared on ESPN's SportsCenter and Yahoo.com and was interviewed by NBAtv. He was an important spark off the bench in a home win over Houston Baptist.
Tuesday, on the first day of his senior year, Valentin had a moment that topped them all. After the team's first conditioning session of the fall, head coach Brian Wardle surprised Valentin in front of his teammates by offering him the team's last scholarship for the 2011-12 season.

For Valentin, a 5-foot-4 Florida native that transferred to Green Bay prior to last season from Daytona State Community College, it was an emotional moment and a dream realized. For Wardle, it was a statement on what Valentin's hard work and character have meant to the Phoenix program over the past year.
After an afternoon filled with team meetings and a tough conditioning session, the offer was a perfect ending to the first day of classes and basketball activities for the Phoenix.
