YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Senior Holly Visser (Waupun, Wis.) powered Green Bay (9-16, 4-8 HL) past Youngstown State (7-16, 5-8) in four sets (23-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-14) Friday night in Horizon League volleyball action. It was the first league road win of the season for the Phoenix and gave Green Bay its fourth victory in its last six matches overall. Visser totaled a Green Bay season-high 20 kills and tacked on 17 digs for her 11th double-double of the year. She also hit .381 on the evening to lead all attackers. The Phoenix battled back from a tough two-point loss in the opening set to claim hard-fought wins in both the second and third frames. The second set featured a dozen ties and seven lead changes before Green Bay scored five of the final six points to claim the victory. Green Bay utilized a 6-1 run to turn an early 6-3 deficit into a two-point lead. The Phoenix never relinquished the lead and hung on for a three-point win. The fourth set did not start well for Green Bay, as YSU scored five of the first six points. That all changed quickly, however, after a Phoenix time out. Green Bay knotted the score at 10-all and then scored 15 of the set's final 19 points to roll to victory. Whitney Schott (Roscoe, Ill.) had a double-double with 48 assists and 12 digs, while Kelly Mischler (Kaukauna, Wis.) had six blocks. Green Bay swept the Penguins in the season series and is 19-5 against Youngstown State all-time, including wins in 17 of the last 19 meetings. The Phoenix has completed its season road slate and now will finish the regular season with four home games, beginning next Friday against Cleveland State. --www.GreenBayPhoenix.com-- |
