Green Bay Battles in Extra Innings to Down Northern Kentucky
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Green Bay plated four runs in the top of the eighth inning to seal a 5-1 victory over Northern Kentucky on Friday afternoon. The Phoenix also opened the second game of the doubleheader with a 3-1 lead but will have to wait until tomorrow to finish due to a rain delay.

After three scoreless innings from both squads, Green Bay (3-28, 2-15) was the first to get on the board after Allie Taylor smashed a solo home run, tying the program's career record of 16.
The Norse (13-34, 7-12) offense was unresponsive until the sixth inning when NKU's Isabell Alexander was able to touch home after a Phoenix miscue on the defensive end, knotting the game at one-all heading into the seventh.
After a scoreless seventh, Green Bay's offense exploded for four runs to take a 5-1 advantage into the bottom of the eighth. The Phoenix kept NKU off the board in its final plate appearances and secured it second league victory of the season.
Katie Rossmann spent eight scoreless innings in the circle for Green Bay, allowing zero earned runs, eight hits and picking up three strikeouts.
Bailey Schultz had an impressive day at the plate for Green Bay, going a perfect 4-for-4 and picking up one RBI. Olivia Magaldi also shined against the Norse and finished 3-for-4 in the outing.
The series concludes tomorrow afternoon with the finish of today's delayed game at 11 a.m. followed by the series finale.
