VALPARAISO, Ind. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) –  In a battle for the top spot in the Horizon League, the Green Bay men’s tennis team (6-8, 3-1 HL) came up short against Valparaiso (20-3, 6-0 HL) on Friday morning, falling to the Crusaders, 6-1, on the road.

Valparaiso clinched the doubles point, 2-0, after picking up wins at No. 1 and No. 3. First, the Phoenix duo of Josh Schramm and Ivan Radomirovic dropped a 6-0 result to the Crusaders before Charlie Emhardt and Jeffrey Schorsch downed the Phoenix’s No. 1 pairing of Charlie Ridout and Florian Kraenzler, 6-3. As a result, the No. 2 doubles match went unfinished.

In singles, Green Bay fell 2-0 behind after sophomore Charlie Ridout had to retire due to illness at No. 5. However, Valparaiso went on to win each of the next two singles to clinch the match. Schorsch beat Kraenzler at No. 1, 6-2, 6-2, before Schramm dropped the match at No. 3, 6-2, 6-2.

With the match already decided, McDowall and Kostadinov dropped their matches at No. 4 and No. 2 by a score of 7-5, 6-3 and 6-3, 7-5, respectively.

Radomirovic earned the Phoenix’s lone point with a 6-7, 6-2, 10-5 victory over Garret Gardner at No. 6.

The Phoenix will be back in action Saturday afternoon when facing UIC in Chicago at 2pm.
