GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Green Bay (6-3) begins a season-long five-game homestand with three non-conference contests. The first test for the Phoenix, winners of three of its past four games, is Tennessee Tech (6-6) from the Ohio Valley Conference, who visits the Resch Center on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for a non-conference men’s basketball game.

Posting an 89-85 come-from-behind win over South Dakota on Saturday, Green Bay split a pair of road contests last week. Against the Coyotes, the Phoenix rallied from a 14-point deficit thanks to a balanced scoring effort. Junior Keifer Sykes (Chicago, Ill.) led the squad with 23 points, and Alec Brown (17), Greg Mays (15), Jordan Fouse (11) and Carrington Love (11) gave Green Bay five players in double figures.

The Golden Eagles also enter Tuesday’s game after recording a road win. On Sunday, Tennessee Tech defeated Lamar 79-74 with leading scorers Ty Allen (12.2 ppg) and Dennis Ogbe (9.9) combining for 32 points. The rebounding battle could be key as both Green Bay and Tennessee Tech have positive rebounding margins this season.

Tuesday’s contest will be televised by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Chris Roth (play-by-play) and Phoenix Hall of Famer Jeff Nordgaard (analyst) on the call. Fans can also watch the game on the Horizon League Network and ESPN3.

GREEN BAY PROBABLE STARTERS
G – #24 Keifer Sykes, G, Jr., 5-11, 175
G – #35 Vincent Garrett, G, Sr., 6-6, 220
F – #4 Jordan Fouse, F, So., 6-7, 225
F – #15 Greg Mays, F, Jr., 6-9, 222
C – #21 Alec Brown, C, Sr., 7-1, 235

NATIONAL RANKINGS: Green Bay has three different players in the top-20 nationally in a statistical ranking. Sophomore Jordan Fouse (Racine, Wis.) is tied for fifth in the country in steals per game (3.22), senior Alec Brown ranks tied for 18th in blocks per game (3.2), and junior Keifer Sykes (Chicago, Ill.) is tied for 19th in points per game (21.6).

SUCCESS AT SEVENTY: Through nine games, Green Bay has a 5-0 record when scoring 70 or more points, including three wins totaling 89-plus. The Phoenix is 1-3 in the four games this season when it failed to reach 70 points.

BUILDING BLOCKS: With an average of 7.9 blocks per game, the Phoenix is tied for second nationally. Green Bay has blocked 71 shots through nine games and is well on its way to breaking the single-season program record for the fourth-straight season. Alec Brown (29), Jordan Fouse (19) and Greg Mays (10) are all on pace to block more shots this season than last season. Of the program’s top-10 all-time single-game team block efforts, five have been recorded in 2013-14.

TOUGH LOSSES: Green Bay has dropped three games this season, losing to Wisconsin (12-0), Harvard (9-1) and Eastern Michigan (6-3) teams that have combined for a 27-4 record to date. The Phoenix held second-half leads against both Wisconsin and Harvard.

QUICK GRAND: Sykes was honored prior to last Saturday’s game for becoming the 26th member of the program’s 1,000-point club in the team’s 67-59 win over Tulsa on Nov. 30. Doing so in his 70th career game, Sykes became the third-fastest player in the program’s Division I history to join the 1,000-point club (Tony Bennett-56; Richard Sims-68).

STREAKING SOPHOMORE: Fouse opened the 2013-14 season by extending two impressive statistical streaks. The reigning rebounding champion in the Horizon League has grabbed five or more boards in 28 consecutive games. At Eastern Michigan, the 6-foot-7 sophomore wing had a streak of blocking a shot end at 30.

RECORD HEIST: Against Virginia, Fouse tallied eight steals to break the single-game program record. The eighth steal was possibly the play of the game. With Green Bay leading 71-69, Fouse stole a pass from Malcolm Brogdon and converted a layup for a four-point lead.
