GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women’s basketball team continues its three-game homestand on Sunday, welcoming Wichita State to the Kress Center on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

The Phoenix will look to rebound from a loss to South Dakota State to start the homestand last Saturday. The loss brought to an end a streak of 19 consecutive home wins, and was just the seventh loss in program history at the Kress Center, where Green Bay is now 96-7 (.932) all-time since it opened in 2007.

Fans can listen live to the game on Green Bay's new radio partner, WNFL 1440 AM. The live audio with Bruce VandenPlas on the call will also be available for free via GreenBayPhoenix.com or on the Green Bay Phoenix App on IOS and Android devices. The game will also be aired live on the Horizon League Network, and live stats will be available.

Sunday’s contest will mark the fourth all-time meeting between the two squads. Green Bay owns a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series after winning the last two meetings, including a 63-42 triumph last season in Wichita (12/14) and an 81-73 victory on Dec. 14, 2002 at home. The Shockers won the first meeting, 78-71, at home during the 2001-02 season.

Eight games into the season, the Phoenix is led by sophomore Kaili Lukan (Barrie, Ontario) who is averaging 10.9 points/game. Senior Breannah Ranger (Skokie, Ill.) is right behind with 10.4 points/game and a team-best 7.6 rebound/game, while freshman Tesha Buck (Red Wing, Minn.) has a team-high 4.3 assists/game and 1.8 steals/game.

Wichita State enters Sunday’s matinee with an overall record of 6-2, most recently defeating Arkansas State 66-47 on Thursday. The Shockers are riding a five game winning streak after recording its only two losses of the season in back-to-back games against then-No. 11/14 Oklahoma and St. Joseph’s (11/10 & 11/15). Leading the nation holding its opponents to just 18.8 percent (16-85) shooting from three, the Shockers are also 24th nationally limiting its competition to 56.0 points per game.

Two Shockers are averaging double-digit scoring, led by 14.6 points/game from junior Alex Harden and 13.8 points/game by redshirt senior Michelle Price. Harden also leads the team with 6.0 assists/game, while Price averages a team-best 6.9 rebounds/game and 2.3 steals/game and redshirt junior Kelsey Jacobs has 1.6 blocks/game.

STARTING FIVE

1. Unfamiliar Territory: With a 66-54 loss to South Dakota State last Saturday, Green Bay saw a streak of 19 consecutive home wins come to an end. It is just the seventh loss in program history at the Kress Center, where the Phoenix is now 96-7 (.932) all-time since it opened in 2007. It is also the second-consecutive season the Phoenix has opened the month of December with a loss. Under head coach Kevin Borseth, Green Bay is now 7-4 in December openers.

2. Playing Parallels: A look at the stat sheet shows a pretty even matchup for Sunday, with Green Bay and Wichita State’s statistics mirroring each other in almost every category. Both squads average in the high-60’s in scoring while limiting opponents to under 55 points/game. Shooting percentages are nearly identical, while the Phoenix leads in turnovers (14.1 - 15.0), turnovers forced (21.5 - 19.6) and steals (9.0 - 8.8), the Shockers hold a slim advantage in rebounding (37.8 - 35.8) and blocks (3.9 - 2.6).

3. Out of the Gates: Green Bay has set the tone early in its games, outscoring the opposition by a combined 87 points (272-185) in the first half. Duquesne is the only team to outscore the Phoenix in the first 20 minutes this season (31-29), but the Phoenix responded to eventually win the contest, 68-60. The same can be said about Wichita State, which has bested its opponents by 92 points (270-178) in the opening stanza.

4. Deep Trouble: After shooting 50.0 percent from three in back-to-back games against Vermont and William and Mary Green Bay has struggled, shooting under 15.0 percent in its last two contests. The last time the Phoenix shot under 15 percent in back-to-back contests was on Nov. 23 and 24, 2001 against Xavier and Bradley. Things won’t get any easier on Sunday, as Wichita State leads the nation holding its opponents to just 18.8 percent shooting (16-85) from deep.

5. Hold ‘em Down: Green Bay has held its opponents to an average of 55.0 points per game this season, the lowest total in the conference and the 16th best average in the nation. The competition has scored more than 60 points on just two occasions this season, which happen to be the only two losses on the Phoenix schedule (St. Bonaventure and South Dakota State).
