Green Bay Drops Tough Road Game at Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio ( – Green Bay shot over 50 percent on Saturday night at the Nutter Center, but fell 88-79 at Wright State to suffer its second-straight defeat. The Phoenix (15-11, 9-5 HL) committed 19 turnovers and watched the host Raiders (17-9, 8-5 HL) go 22-for-29 from the free throw line to split the season series.

Green Bay and Wright State were tied at halftime at 38-38, but the home team enjoyed a 50-point second-half performance and was able to fend off the Phoenix. The Raiders shot 52 percent (28-for-54) and knocked down 10 3s in the game.

Jamar Hurdle came up big off the bench with 16 points and eight rebounds, going 7-for-9 from the field and 2-for-3 from 3-point range. Both of those totals were season-highs for Hurdle in Horizon League play.

Turner Botz added 13 points on four made 3s, while Warren Jones scored 10 points. All 10 players to play for the Phoenix scored at least two points.

The Raiders opened the second half with a 3-pointer and went on an 11-4 run during the first four minutes of the half. Green Bay never got closer than six points the rest of the game.

Wright State was led by Justin Mitchell, who tallied the first triple-double by any Horizon League player this season. Mitchell scored 14 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out 10 assists. Mark Alstork scored a game-high 20 points after making just one field goal in the first meeting at the Resch Center on Jan. 12.

Green Bay will hit the road for two more games, beginning with a trip down I-43 to face in-state rival Milwaukee on Saturday, Feb. 18. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. to be televised on Spectrum Sports.
