Green Bay Softball Falls to Butler, Loyola on Saturday
ROSEMONT, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay softball team continued play in the Total Control Sports Invitational this afternoon, taking on Butler (3-1) and Loyola (3-0) at The Dome in Rosemont, Ill. Green Bay (0-3) dropped its contest with the Bulldogs, 8-0, and lost a nail-biter to the Ramblers, 9-6.
Butler 8, Green Bay 0
Green Bay held the Butler offense scoreless through the first two innings of play but the Bulldogs exploded for six runs in the third inning to take command of the game. Butler scored the six runs off of eight hits in the innings, one of which was a two-RBI triple from the Bulldogs’ Doud.
Butler went on to add a pair of runs in the fourth inning to enforce the eight-run rule and defeat the Phoenix 8-0 in five innings.
Loyola 9, Green Bay 6
Loyola jumped out to an early 5-0 lead over Green Bay after the first two innings of play, as the Ramblers capitalized on six hits and a Phoenix defensive miscue to take control of the game early.
Green Bay began to rally in the third inning after Olivia Magaldi scored on a fielding error to cut the deficit to four runs. The Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own to increase its advantage to 6-1.
Green Bay scored five runs from the fourth to the sixth inning, but was never able to pull even with Butler as the Phoenix fell 9-6 in its second game of the day.
Abby Brinkmeier was the lone Phoenix with multiple hits in the game, finishing 2-4 with one RBI. Allie Hislope (1-for-3) and Delagrange (1-for-1) finished with one RBI apiece and combined to finish 2-of-4.
The Phoenix will close out its action in the Total Control Sports Invitational tomorrow afternoon against Miami (OH) at 9 a.m. and IUPUI at 1 p.m.
