Men's Soccer Adds Seven to Roster

GREEN BAY, Wis. ( – The Green Bay men’s soccer program has announced the addition of seven players to its roster for the upcoming 2014 season.

Head coach Dan Popik, in his third season at the helm, has announced that transfer Dani Alvarado in addition to Emmanuel Ekunseitan, Jordan Etsio, Tristan Fairclough, Nathan Kelsey, Sidney McClain and Just Andreas Salvesen will wear the Phoenix uniform next season.

“I’m very excited to add these seven talented players to our program," Popik said. "The addition of these players will increase the overall talent within the squad, enhancing our opportunity to compete for a Horizon League Championship.”

USC Upstate

Dani Alvarado, a sophomore goalkeeper transfer, comes to Green Bay after playing the last two seasons at the University of South Carolina Upstate. In his first season playing for the Spartans during the 2012 season, Alvarado ranked second in the Atlantic Sun Conference and 18th nationally with a .830 save percentage. A two-time A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week selection, he was also third in saves (88), fourth with five shutouts and fifth with a 1.02 goals against average, tying the A-Sun lead by allowing just 18 goals. Last season Alvarado made eight starts for the Spartans, posting a .595 save percentage and 2.20 goals-against average. Alvarado was also a consistent starter, posting a perfect 6-0 record and .849 goals against average, for the Thunder Bay Chill during their run to the 2013 Premier Development League National Championship game.

Toronto, Ontario
TFC Academy 

A native of Toronto, Nathan Kelsey will join the Phoenix after transferring from Bryant & Stratton College, a junior college in New York. Serving as a team captain for two years, he was also named the team MVP in addition to collecting all-region, all-district and all-conference honors both seasons. Kelsey played club soccer with TFC Academy, a member of the Canadian Soccer League and was a two-year captain of the squad.

Andover, Minn. | Andover
St. Croix Soccer Club

Emmanuel Ekunseitan, a forward from Andover, Minn. will join the Phoenix after a standout career at Andover High School and with St. Croix Soccer Club. As a senior, Ekunseitan lead his Andover High School team to a 3rd place finish in the state tournament, scoring 12 goals and adding 14 assists on the year. For his efforts Ekunseitan was named to the 2013 All-State Tournament Team while also being named as an all-conference performer for the 3rd year in a row. His St. Croix Soccer Club team competes in the Midwest Regional League and in 2013 won the Schwan’s USA Cup and the PUMA Champions Cup. Ekunseitan plans on majoring in History and Business at Green Bay.

Bordeaux, France | Lycée Fernand Daguin
S.A. Mérignac

Jordan Etsio comes to Green Bay from Bordeaux, France where he played at Lycée Fernand Daguin. Playing club soccer with S.A. Mérignac, he helped the squad to a second-place finish at the U17 national tournament and 11th-best ranking among U17 teams in France. In U19 competition, the team won the interleague national tournament and advanced to the finals of The Gambardella Cup, France’s national tournament. He plans on majoring in political science or communications while at Green Bay.

Brampton, Ontario | St. Thomas Aquinas
Sigma Football Club

Tristan Fairclough, a defender Brampton, Ontario will come to Green Bay from St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School. Fairclough plays club soccer for Sigma Football Club in the Ontario Soccer League’s U21 Provincial League. His Sigma FC team were finalists at the Score Showcase in 2012 and were named champions at the Potomac Memorial Tournament in 2013. Fairclough plans on studying studio and design arts at Green Bay.

Minnesota Thunder

Sidney McClain, a midfielder/forward from Brooklyn Park, Minn. comes to the Phoenix program from Champlin Park High School and the Minnesota Thunder U17/18 Development Academy squad. McClain was a two-time all-conference performer and an all-state selection as a junior at Champlin Park High School before foregoing high school soccer his senior year to join the Thunder Development Academy program. During his junior season at Champlin Park, McClain scored 20 goals and added 10 assists.  Through 25 games with the Minnesota Thunder this season, he has scored six goals, which is good for second on the team. McClain plans on studying business at Green Bay.

Vidergaende Skole
Frigg Oslo FK

Just Andreas Salvesen will come to Green Bay from Kongsberg, Norway where he attended Kongsberg Vidergaende Skole. He also played club soccer with Frigg Oslo FK, a member of the third division.

Green Bay is coming off a 2013 season in which it posted a 7-7-3 overall record, including a 2-1 overtime victory at No. 24 Milwaukee to claim the Chancellor's Cup and a 3-2 win over Big East opponent DePaul. The Phoenix returns 19 players from last year's roster, including second team all-league performer Lawrence Talery (Coon Rapids, Minn.) and all-freshman selection Audi Jepson (Green Bay, Wis.). Green Bay is set to open is 2014 campaign at home against Grand Canyon University on Aug. 29.
