GREEN BAY, Wis. ( – After capturing its 16th-consecutive Horizon League Regular season title and 15th-consecutive 20+ win season, the Green Bay women’s basketball team will continue its season in the 2014 Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) on Wednesday against the University of Minnesota.

The Phoenix will make the trip to Minneapolis on Wednesday evening to open play in the 64-team tournament, with the game time to be announced tomorrow afternoon. The field includes 32 teams that earned an automatic berth and 32 teams that are chosen at-large. Green Bay earned an automatic berth after capturing the Horizon League regular season title.

"We are excited for the opportunity to continue our season in the WNIT,” head coach Kevin Borseth said. “I am extremely proud of our team's accomplishments thus far this season including winning the Horizon League regular season title, and for them to have a chance to play for a national title will be an exciting opportunity for this team."

Green Bay (22-9) is making its 17th-consecutive postseason appearance and fourth trip to the WNIT, where it has gone 0-3. The Phoenix last appearance came during the 2007-08 season, when it fell to Drake in the opening round.

Minnesota enters the tournament with a record of 20-12 and also received an automatic berth into the tournament.

The Phoenix is 6-6 all-time against the Gophers, but has won the last two meetings including a 79-75 victory at Williams Arena on Nov. 14, 2010.

This year’s field includes 10 teams that were regular season conference champions, tying a WNIT record set last season. There is also 35 teams that finished with 20 or more wins, just one shy of setting the all-time WNIT record also set last season.
