Boockmeier Paces Phoenix on Day Two at Erin Hills
HARTFORD, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Junior Tom Boockmeier (Green Bay, Wis.) carded a 1-under par 35 on the back nine on Monday, bouncing back from a tough front nine to card a 76 and lead the Green Bay men’s golf team in the second round of the Erin Hills Intercollegiate hosted by Marquette. The Phoenix is in 11th place after two rounds with a team score of plus-29 605.
Stanford leads the impressive 14-team field after 36 holes at Erin Hills Golf Course in Hartford after the Cardinal posted a 3-under par 285 on Monday to improve to 11-under 565 through two rounds. The Cardinal is 11 strokes clear of SMU (E, 576) while UCLA (+4, 580), Northwestern (+5, 581) and Oklahoma (+5, 581) round out the top-five.
After shooting an even par 72 on Sunday, Boockmeier was 5-over par through five holes. The junior regrouped to play the final 13 holes in 1-under par, including eight pars and a birdie on the back nine. Boockmeier is tied for 30th entering Tuesday’s final 18 holes.
Sophomore Gene Kiela (Edgerton, Wis.) is one stroke behind Boockmeier in a tie for 36th place with a 36-hole total of 5-over par 149.
Junior Joseph Collard (Marinette, Wis.) also posted a 1-under par 35 on the back nine on Monday, carding six pars, two birdies and one bogey en route to a 76.
