Media Relations Contact: Men's Basketball
Joey Daniels is in his second year at Green Bay and is serving in his first year as the Director of Strategic Communications in 2015-16 after joining the Phoenix in August 2014.
He will serve as the primary media contact for the Phoenix men's basketball program, along with providing communications work for the Phoenix Fund and working closely with the external relations and marketing departments.
Daniels spent the 2014-15 season as the Assistant Director for Athletics Communications, serving as the primary media relations contact for women's basketball and men's and women's soccer.
He served as the communications host for the 2015 Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship and implemented a strong social media presence on multiple platforms.
Daniels will help lead a strong graphic design initiative in the communications office, along with implementing successful social media strategies and platforms for the Phoenix. He will also assist in video production and publication output for the entire athletic department.
Daniels came from Alabama Huntsville, where he worked directly with the NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey program from 2012-2014. He spent time working as an integral part in the program's face and communication efforts leading up to its acceptance into the prestigious WCHA and putting UAH hockey back on the national map. In the hockey program's first year in the WCHA, Daniels brought national media attention to the team, landing feature articles in the New York Times, NCAA.com, USCHO.com and College Hockey News.
His 2014 UAH baseball poster was named "Best Poster in the Nation" in the College Division by CoSIDA, as Daniels' artwork was selected first overall.
In May of 2014, Daniels led UAH as the host of the 2014 GSC Baseball Tournament in Birmingham. Two weeks following, he served as the official scorer of the 2014 SEC Baseball Tournament in Hoover, keeping official stats for the duration of the tournament.
Daniels has also hosted three NCAA Softball Regionals, including one NCAA Super Regional in 2012.
In his two years at UAH, Daniels spearheaded strong social media initiatives that have seen a substantial increase in fan engagement on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram. He served as the primary graphic designer for the majority of projects output by the Sports Information and entire athletic department.
Prior to UAH, Daniels was the Assistant Director for Sports Communications at the University of North Georgia where he was responsible for game day operations, production of publications, maintaining the athletics website and assisting in the day-to-day activities for all 13 Nighthawks’ sports.
Daniels also worked as a public relations assistant for the Atlanta Silverbacks in the summer of 2012, a women’s soccer semi-pro team in the USL and W-League. He was responsible for all media relations efforts of the Silverbacks.
Daniels completed his Bachelor’s degree in Communication-Media Studies and Journalism in May 2011 from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. While at Stevens Point, Daniels was an assistant in the Sports Information office for almost two years.
Daniels is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and is a season ticket holder of the Green Bay Packers.
From the small town of Wild Rose, Wisconsin, Joey is the son of David and Maureen Daniels. He has one sister, Amy (31) and one brother, Sean (23) and is the proud uncle of his nephew Kavan, who turned 2 years old in July 2015.
He is engaged to be married to Jessica Wirtz, a math teacher in the School District of Mishicot. The two will get married on July 16, 2016, in De Pere, Wis.
