Green Bay and PMI Announce Resch Extension Through 2018
GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men’s basketball team will continue to call the Resch Center home through at least the 2017-18 season, Green Bay Athletics and PMI Entertainment Group announced at a joint press conference on Thursday morning.
The five-year agreement continues a partnership dating back to 2002-03, when the Phoenix began playing its home games at the state-of-the-art facility which opened prior to that season. The extension gives Green Bay men’s basketball priority status for scheduling events and also includes increased marketing and advertising support aimed at driving ticket sales and sponsorships. Green Bay and PMI will collaborate branding efforts to give the Phoenix an increased presence in the facility.
“We have had a long history of success and tradition playing home games on the corner of Oneida and Lombardi, and our program looks forward to continuing this success with our partnership with PMI Entertainment Group and the Resch Center,” said Interim Director of Athletics Dan McIver. “We thank Ken Wachter and PMI for their commitment to our program moving forward, and we look forward to entertaining Phoenix fans with high-quality basketball at the Resch Center for years to come.”
Since opening play in the Resch Center, Green Bay has posted a 109-37 record in the facility for a winning percentage of 74.6 percent in 11 seasons. Current head men’s basketball coach Brian Wardle has been on the Phoenix bench for eight of those seasons, including the past three as the head coach while guiding Green Bay to wins in 78.6 percent of its games in the facility (33-9).
“Green Bay Basketball has experienced great success at the Resch Center, and we have always been extremely excited to call it our home,” said Wardle. “The Resch Center is one of the best venues in the Horizon League and our players love playing here in front of Phoenix fans. With its size, location and amenities, the Resch Center provides us with a great home atmosphere as well as recruiting and scheduling advantages.”
Green Bay played its first home game at the Resch Center on Nov. 30, 2002 against Wisconsin, and in 2013-14 will again welcome the Badgers for its first regular season home game on Nov. 16, 2013. The 2013-14 season will be the first time since the inaugural season that the Phoenix will welcome Virginia on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. To check out the complete 2013-14 schedule, click here.
"It's an exciting day for us because we have always considered the Phoenix a prime tenant of the Resch Center," said PMI Entertainment Group President Ken Wachter. "We are pleased this new agreement allows us to continue to host Division I basketball for at least another five years."
