MUNCIE, Ind. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Two goals in a span of two minutes during the second half proved to be too much for the Green Bay women’s soccer team to overcome as it fell to Ball State, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Briner Sports Complex in Muncie.

With the loss, the Phoenix dropped to 0-1-1 on the season, while the Cardinals improved to 2-0-0.

“Friday’s night overtime game and the heat took its toll on our depth today,” said head coach Trevor Warren. “We were the better team in the first half and coming out of the second until they scored the goal.

“The exciting thing is that we are creating chances and outplaying teams on the road. We just have to stay positive and get ready to play at home this upcoming weekend.”

Green Bay challenged in the first half, owing a 5-2 shot advantage and 3-2 edge in corner kicks. Heidi Hartmann (Plymouth, Minn.) started the pressure just 1:15 in with a shot that forced Ball State’s Brooke Dennis into a save situation. In the 33rd minute, Abby Juzwik (Madison, Wis.) had a shot blocked that led to a corner kick but Hartmann’s goal attempt on the play was also blocked, leaving the scoreboard blank.

The Phoenix stayed strong in the opening of the second half, but Ball State came alive in the 62nd minute with a goal by Kelsey Wendlandt to put the hosts up 1-0. It took less than two minutes for the Cardinal to find the net again, this time as Victoria Jacobs headed the ball into the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage. BSU’s Erin Greeley put her first goal of the season on the board in the 73rd minute for the final 3-0 margin.

Nastacia Behle (St. Paul, Mo.) played the entire match, allowing three goals with four saves. Hartmann led the squad with three shots, putting two of those on goal.

For the game, the Cardinals recorded a slight edge in shots, 10-9, while corner kicks were even at five apiece.

Green Bay returns to action on Friday, serving as hosts of the Phoenix Soccer Tournament. Northern Iowa will face Eastern Illinois at 2:00 p.m. before the Phoenix take to the pitch against Western Illinois at 4:00 p.m at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
